The Partnership
In response to the growing need for mitigating plastic pollution, the ISWA Plastic Pollution Calculator was borne out of a collaboration between the University of Leeds and the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) under the auspices of the Marine Litter Task Force. As the Task Force Leader, Dr Costas Velis led the technical development of the Calculator alongside Dr Josh Cottom. ISWA and University of Leeds work in a concerted collaborative manner to further advance the technical capabilities and facilitate the application of the toolkit.
Since its inception in 2016, the ISWA Plastic Pollution Calculator has undergone several iterations following peer review by experts in marine litter and solid waste management from across the world. In its present form, the Calculator already possesses considerable assessment capabilities, having been deployed at multi-district scale on the Island of Bali in Indonesia.
